WHAT IS ALPHA?

Alpha is a 10-week series that explores the fundamentals of the Christian faith. Each session focuses on a different question about faith, fostering open, honest, and informal conversations. It’s a welcoming space to explore life’s big questions together. During Alpha, we’ll share a meal, watch a 30-minute film on faith, and engage in meaningful discussions around the table.

WHAT DOES ALPHA LOOK LIKE?

There isn’t really an average Alpha. Alpha is run in local communities all around the world, and everyone’s welcome. It runs in cafés, churches, bars, prisons, parks, universities, schools, homes—you name it. No two Alphas look the same, but generally they have three key things in common: food, a talk and good conversation.

Talk

The talks are designed to engage guests and inspire conversation. Usually around thirty minutes long, they can be given as a live talk or played as a video, all for free. They explore the big issues around faith and unpack the basics of Christianity, addressing questions such as Who is Jesus? and How can I have faith?

Discussion

Probably the most important part of any Alpha: the chance to share thoughts and ideas on the topic, and simply discuss it in a small group. There’s no obligation to say anything and there’s nothing you can’t say (seriously). It’s an opportunity to hear from others and contribute your own perspective in an honest, friendly and open environment.




How Does Alpha Work?

6:30PM - 6:40PM: INTRODUCTIONS
Welcome and meet some new people!
6:40PM - 7:10PM: SMALL FILMS WITH BIG IDEAS
Each Alpha evening features a 25 minute film. Designed to inspire more questions than provide answers, these short films explore the big issues around faith and unpack the basics of Christianity, addressing questions such as Who is Jesus? and How can we have faith?
7:10PM - 7:45PM: DISCUSS THE QUESTIONS THAT MATTER TO YOU
The entire night builds towards this peak experience: after the film, your hosts will lead conversations in small groups where you can share your thoughts about faith and life and hear from others in your group. You can feel free to say whatever you like or as little as you like, it's up to you.
